Harry Hall Shares Lead at Sony Open

Posted : 10 January 2025

Harry Hall of England carded a six-under-par 64 on Thursday to share the lead at the PGA Tour’s Sony Open in Hawaii. The 27-year-old's strong performance at Waialae Country Club in Honolulu placed him among six players tied atop the leaderboard, although the round was interrupted by darkness with several players still on the course.

Hall’s round featured a rollercoaster performance, including 10 birdies, two bogeys, and a double bogey. He credited his success to a revitalized swing, which he attributes to recent work with legendary golf instructor Butch Harmon. Hall explained that he reached out to Harmon last year for advice, and their collaboration has significantly improved his game.

The golfer's aggressive play with the driver was a key factor in his birdie collection. Hall noted that confidence with the driver was crucial on the tight course, helping him gain strokes on the field. Despite a few mistakes during his round, including the bogeys and double bogey, he remains optimistic for the remainder of the tournament.

Among the early leaders, Hall was the only non-American, with Adam Schenk, Eric Cole, Denny McCarthy, Paul Peterson, and Tom Hoge also sharing the top spot at six under. PGA Tour rookie Paul Peterson made an impressive start to his career, posting five birdies and an eagle on the front nine. Meanwhile, Henrik Norlander and Adam Hadwin sit one stroke behind the leaders, with Hideki Matsuyama, last week’s winner at the Sentry Open, three strokes back.
