Harry Hall of England kept a share of the lead at the Charles Schwab Challenge in Texas after two outstanding putts on the final two holes saved him from losing it due to a poor third round.
Hall, who is vying for his first PGA Tour victory, held a three-shot overnight lead.
But he dropped back to four over par after consecutive double bogeys on the sixth and seventh holes.
He and American Adam Schenk are tied for the lead at 10-under after crucial putts from about 10 feet on the final two holes.
At Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Hall hit his approach ball to within 10 feet of the hole and sunk the next birdie putt to get back to two under for the day.
And after missing the green and making a bad chip shot on the last, he calmly made a putt of over 10 feet for par.
"To be T1 after today is pretty cool, especially after that front nine," world number 197 Hall said.
"It goes to show how hard the course is, and I did a good job battling it back and getting those two birdies on that back nine."
"After two double bogeys, I was still in the tournament. It left me with some hope. I managed to bring it back a little bit."
