Australia's Grace Kim surged ahead at the LPGA Meijer Classic with a stunning six-under-par 66 in the third round, establishing a commanding five-shot lead as she heads into the final day of play. Starting the round tied for the lead with Ally Ewing, Kim's exceptional performance put clear distance between her and the rest of the field at the Blythefield Country Club in suburban Grand Rapids, Michigan.
The 23-year-old from Sydney displayed another brilliant round, notching birdies on the fifth, sixth, and seventh holes to make the turn at three under for the day and 14 under overall. Despite a hiccup with a bogey on the par-five 10th, Kim bounced back with birdies on the 13th, 14th, and 16th holes, extending her lead to five shots with a birdie on the 18th.
Reflecting on her performance, Kim admitted learning from past mistakes, particularly a blown lead earlier in the season, and approached the day with a calmer mindset. She emphasized her determination to maintain her focus heading into the final round, aware of the challenges posed by the course and her competitors.
While Kim surged ahead, overnight co-leader Ally Ewing struggled late in her round, dropping two shots with bogeys on the 15th and 17th holes, leaving her tied for second with a group of five players on 12 under. Among them were Sweden's Anna Nordqvist, South Korea's An Na-rin, and Americans Allisen Corpuz and Lexi Thompson.
Thompson, who carded a seven-under-par 65, the lowest score of the third round, expressed a newfound sense of freedom after announcing her retirement plans. Despite her strong performance, Thompson admitted that days like these made her reconsider her decision to retire, showing her enduring love for the game.
