The Delta State Government will celebrate the 2024 Olympics Day Celebration on Saturday, with Governor Sheriff Oborevwori expected to lead eminent stakeholders in the sporting fraternity to the event, which will be held at the iconic Steven Keshi International Stadium in Asaba.
The Director General of the Delta State Sports Commission, Festus Ohwojero, who disclosed this in a statement, said the event is expected to commence at 8 o'clock in the morning and aims to celebrate the Modern Olympic Games, galvanizing athletes and sports enthusiasts towards better performances and support ahead of the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.
According to Ohwojero, the 2024 Olympic Day Celebration, a global event, continues to resonate throughout the world as the Olympic spirit encourages love, participation, competition, and strong bonds among individuals and countries.
He emphasized that the Olympic Spirit fosters a collective aspiration for victory among teams and peoples, stressing that the event will feature several sporting activities, cultural displays, and other activities earmarked to make the day memorable.
Ohwojero thanked Governor Oborevwori for his continued support and investment in the State Sports sector, noting that the Governor has not relented since assuming office last year. He has attended to the plight of Delta State athletes, especially by paying the backlog of salaries owed to players of Warri Wolves Football Club and Delta Queens Football Club of Asaba, as well as members of Team Delta from the last edition of the National Youth Games held in Asaba.
