GGC Gwale has emerged as the winners of the male and female 2024 Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf Rugby Cup in Kano.
The well-attended tournament had more than 18 clubs in attendance, while the Kano Inter Secondary Schools U-16 Boys and Girls teams competed. The winners and runners-up were decided after the matches at Kofarmata Stadium.
GGC Gwale defeated the previous title holders, Ahmadiyya College Kano, by 3 tries (15 points) in the Boys' category, while in the Girls' category, GGAC Goron Dutse played against GGC Kano in the final. The game ended in a draw, and extra time was added, but no points were secured.
GGC Kano emerged victorious via a coin toss conducted by the match officials.
The Chairman of the LOC, Hassan Garo, stated, "The youth tournaments have showcased great talent discovery and have shown that the youth are the cornerstone of the sport."
"The competition has provided young athletes with an opportunity to showcase their skills."
Among the top stakeholders who witnessed the event were the Director of the Kano Sports Commission, Isa Datti, the Deputy Director, Nuhu Abdulkadir Karmami, the personal consultant to the Executive Secretary, and Mallam Aliyu Kasimm, among others.
