Francesco Molinari's spectacular hole-in-one on the par-3 ninth, his final hole of the day, secured his spot for the weekend at the US Open, as he made the cut on the number with a thrilling shot at Pinehurst. Austria's Sepp Straka also aced the same hole, adding to the excitement of Friday's second round.
Molinari struck a superb 7-iron from 195 yards, the ball landing and rolling with precision before dropping into the hole. Reflecting on the shot, Molinari expressed amazement, saying, "It was the ideal shot... I don't even know what to say. Just incredible."
The timely ace came at the end of Molinari's round of two-over 72, which left him right on the cutline at five-over 145. Admitting it was his last chance to stay in contention for the weekend, Molinari emphasized the rarity of such an occurrence but maintained his focus on making a solid swing.
Sepp Straka, who also carded a 72 on Friday, matched Molinari's feat with his own hole-in-one on the ninth. His shot, also with a 7-iron, bounced on the green before rolling into the cup. Straka, known for his strong performances, celebrated the shot with his caddie and playing partners, having secured his place for the weekend with a score of 142.
