By defeating Jon Rahm by three strokes to win the Mexico Open, Tony Finau outperformed himself from the previous year.
The American, who tied for second place with Spain's Rahm a year ago, won with a five-under 66 to finish with a total score of 24 under.
With a two-shot advantage over Rahm and Akshay Bhatia going into the final round, Finau recorded a round of 65 with five birdies and no bogeys.
"It feels amazing. I knew I would have my hands full, " said the 33-year-old.
"'Rahmbo' is on top of the world right now. It's crazy how this game is - you never feel you have a tournament won until it's over."
With his fourth victory in the last 18 events and sixth PGA Tour triumph, Finau climbs from 16th to 11th in the world rankings.
Rahm, the reigning Masters champion and number one in the world, was unable to duplicate his Saturday performance, when he shot a course record-breaking round of 61, and his hopes were dashed by a bogey at the par-three 17th.
Third-place finisher Brandon Wu was two strokes behind, while 21-year-old Bhatia was fourth on 18 under.
