Erin Jackson, the Olympic champion from Florida, secured her second ISU Speed Skating World Cup gold in three days with another impressive victory in the 500m event in Beijing. The 31-year-old athlete claimed her first World Cup race victory since the 2021/22 season on Friday and continued her dominant form on the same Chinese ice where she made history over a year ago.
Jackson, who became the first black woman to win a Winter Olympic gold medal in an individual event in Beijing, extended her remarkable record at the National Speed Skating Oval by outpacing Jutta Leerdam of the Netherlands and South Korea's Kim Min-sum to clinch gold.
On the final afternoon of the competition in Beijing, three-time Olympic champion Kjeld Nuis secured victory in the men's 1000m, surpassing Haavard Lorentzen of Norway and China's Ning Zongyan. Nuis, who had previously claimed 1500m gold during the weekend, demonstrated his dominance over the shorter distance with another impressive performance.
In other events, Norway's Ragne Wiklund secured gold in the women's 3000m, while the Netherlands' Naomi Verkerk, Helga Drost, and Antoinette Rijpma-de Jonga led their team to an impressive victory in the women's team competition. The final race of the second World Cup event saw Italians Andrea Giovannini and Daniele Di Stefano clinch gold and silver in the men's mass start, ahead of Olympic champion Bart Swings.
Erin Jackson's remarkable achievements in the 500m event mark a significant return to form, adding to her legacy as a trailblazer in winter sports and affirming her prowess on the international speed skating stage.
