England's Matthew Baldwin wins His First DP World Tour Championship
Posted : 05 April 2023
At his 200th attempt, Matthew Baldwin of England won the SDC Championship in South Africa by seven strokes to capture his maiden DP World Tour championship.
The Spaniard Adri Arnaus, who finished in second place, was far behind the 37-year-old after shooting a final-round four-under 68.
It completes Baldwin's incredible recovery after losing his Tour card in 2016 due to a slew of injuries.
"It's been a tough few years, so obviously to get the win means absolutely everything," he said.
"I can't process it right now, but it just means the world to me." He hit his first bogey of the day at the 11th, but birdies at the 13th and 14th extended his advantage further and he finished the tournament on 18 under.
On 11 under, Arnaus was his closest rival, and Ewen Ferguson of Scotland was one shot back in a tie for third with five other players
