England alters lineup, Springboks remain unchanged in Rugby World Cup

Posted : 19 October 2023
England's head coach, Steve Borthwick, has made strategic changes to his squad ahead of the highly anticipated Rugby World Cup semi-final against South Africa in Paris. Joe Marler, Freddie Steward, and George Martin have been selected to join the starting XV, injecting fresh talent and energy into the team.

This decision comes after England's hard-fought victory over Fiji, which led to the exclusion of Ellis Genge, Marcus Smith, and Ollie Chessum. Borthwick expressed his confidence in the team's progress throughout the tournament, highlighting their ability to overcome challenging situations and find ways to win.

He emphasized the significance of facing the world champions and the number one ranked team in the world, emphasizing that the players are fully prepared for the knockout rugby showdown in Paris.

On the other side, South Africa's head coach, Jacques Nienaber, has opted to maintain the same lineup that triumphed over tournament hosts France. Nienaber recognizes the magnitude of this clash, with both teams being one step away from a World Cup final. He anticipates a fiercely contested encounter, as history has shown that England elevates their performance for such high-stakes matches.

This semi-final holds special historical significance, with eight South African players having previously defeated England in the 2019 World Cup final. Nienaber and his team are well aware of England's capabilities and the intense competition that awaits, with both sides vying for the prestigious World Cup trophy.
