Ellen van Dijk, a three-time world time trial champion, has been confirmed to represent the Netherlands at the upcoming Paris Olympics by the country's cycling federation (KNWU), despite a recent setback. Just six weeks ago, van Dijk suffered a severe ankle injury in a training camp mishap in Spain, colliding with a trailer. Following surgery in June, the 37-year-old athlete has shown remarkable determination and recovery, swiftly focusing on her rehabilitation with an unwavering eye on the Olympic Games.
Reflecting on her journey back to fitness, van Dijk expressed her unwavering commitment to competing in Paris, stating, "From the moment I fell, I knew what I had to do: get myself ready for the Games." She described the recovery process as intense, taking it day by day, steadily progressing towards her ultimate goal. Despite the challenges, she eagerly anticipates joining her team and aims to deliver a stellar performance alongside them in Paris.
Having previously clinched victory in the time trial at the world championships in 2013, 2021, and 2022, van Dijk also boasts Olympic experience, having finished fourth in the event at the Rio Olympics in 2016. The cycling events at the Paris Olympics are scheduled to run from July 27 to August 11, providing van Dijk with a platform to showcase her resilience and competitive spirit on the international stage once again.
