Cricket World Cup 2023: India crushes Pakistan in one-sided showdown
Posted : 14 October 2023
India dominated Pakistan in the much-anticipated World Cup clash, turning it into a one-sided affair in Ahmedabad. Pakistan has never managed to defeat India in a men's 50-over World Cup, and for a brief moment, it seemed like they might challenge the hosts as they reached 155-2 at the world's largest cricket stadium.
However, a stunning collapse followed. Captain Babar Azam was bowled out by Mohammed Siraj for 50, triggering a sequence of eight wickets falling for just 36 runs, ultimately leading Pakistan to a total of 191 all out. Mohammed Siraj was one of five Indian bowlers who claimed two wickets each.
The target appeared to be no trouble for the formidable Indian batting lineup. Despite losing Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli with only 16 runs each, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma played a magnificent innings of 86, sealing the victory with nearly 20 overs to spare.
This win marks India's eighth successive victory against Pakistan in World Cups, maintaining their unbeaten streak that dates back to 1992. They now stand at three wins in three games in this year's tournament, sharing the top spot in the group table with New Zealand. Their next match is against Afghanistan.
In contrast, Pakistan experienced their first loss in this World Cup, and this defeat, especially against their arch-rivals, was a significant disappointment. They will face Australia in Bengaluru next.
