Britain's cycling star Chris Froome has been omitted from Israel Premier Tech's lineup for the Tour de France for the second consecutive year, marking a notable absence from the prestigious event. Also missing from the team is Canadian rider Michael Woods, known for his stage win on the Puy-de-Dome summit in the previous edition.
Leading the team will be compatriot Derek Gee and Welsh cyclist Stevie Williams, with Gee recently finishing third in the Criterium du Dauphine and Williams claiming victory at the Fleche Wallonne earlier this season.
Expressing his excitement, Derek Gee, aged 26, shared his anticipation about making his debut at the Tour de France, describing it as a lifelong ambition fulfilled. Meanwhile, the absence of Chris Froome, who clinched Tour de France titles in 2013, 2015, 2016, and 2017, comes as no surprise. Froome has struggled to regain his top form since a serious accident during the 2019 Criterium du Dauphine.
The Israel Premier Tech roster for the upcoming Tour de France also features Pascal Ackermann, Guillaume Boivin, Jakob Fuglsang, Hugo Houle, Krists Neilands, and Jake Stewart. The race is scheduled to commence in Florence, Italy, on June 29 and will continue through to July 21, showcasing the world's elite cyclists in one of the sport's most prestigious competitions.
