Dutch rider Charlotte Kool secured her second consecutive victory on home soil by winning the second stage of the women’s Tour de France, marking the first leg of a Tuesday double-header. The stage, which covered 67 kilometers from Dordrecht to Rotterdam, was marked by several crashes and an early attack by Belgian rider Audrey De Keersmaeker. However, Kool managed to maintain her lead and further solidified her position in the yellow jersey.
In the final stretch, Kool outpaced her fellow Dutch riders, Lorena Wiebes, who was looking to recover from a chain issue earlier in the race, and Marianne Vos, to claim victory. Kool expressed her satisfaction with the win, noting that staying calm amid the race's tense moments was crucial. Despite feeling unwell just two weeks ago, she now feels strong and is thrilled to win while wearing the yellow jersey.
The Tour de France continues with the third stage, a 6.3-kilometer time trial through the streets of Rotterdam later in the day. The race will cross into Belgium on Wednesday and conclude on Sunday with a challenging climb up Alpe d’Huez, one of the most demanding ascents in cycling.
