Posted : 06 April 2023
World No. 2 Scottie Scheffler is only four strokes behind Collin Morikawa in second place after Rory McIlroy struggled to a 76 in his opening round.
After the opening round of The Players, where Rory McIlroy struggled to get back to the top of the global rankings, Chad Ramey shocked the top PGA Tour players to suddenly take the lead.
Ramey, who had failed to make the cut in seven of his prior ten PGA Tour tournaments, smashed the record book at TPC Sawgrass with an incredible 64 without making a bogey. The American now has a one-stroke advantage against Collin Morikawa, a two-time major champion.
Rahm is in danger of missing the cut, as Scheffler surpasses McIlroy and Rahm in the morning headline group.
