Pablo Castrillo secured the most significant win of his career with a stunning summit finish on stage 12 of the Vuelta a España, overcoming Britain's Max Poole in a dramatic finale. The 23-year-old rider for Equipo Kern Pharma, who is making his Grand Tour debut, entered the final kilometre with a 30-second lead and managed to fend off Poole on the challenging ascent to Montana de Manzaneda, finishing eight seconds ahead of him.
Marc Soler of UAE Team Emirates completed the podium in third place for the stage. In the general classification, Australian Ben O'Connor maintained his lead over Primož Roglič, with a margin of three minutes and 16 seconds.
Castrillo's victory was particularly poignant as it came on the same day that Kern Pharma's former team president, Manolo Azcona, was announced to have passed away due to illness. Castrillo expressed his emotions, dedicating the win to his team and staff. "It's unbelievable," Castrillo said. "I was very nervous for the final but decided to attack on the flat and secure the victory."
