Canadian Open: Tyrrell Hatton shot a remarkable 64 to share second place

Posted : 11 June 2023
In the second round of the Canadian Open at Oakdale Golf and Country Club, Tyrrell Hatton delivered an impressive performance, shooting a remarkable eight-under-par 64 to surge into contention.

The 31-year-old English golfer had started the tournament with a level-par round, but his exceptional display on the second day, featuring nine birdies and only one bogey, positioned him just one shot behind the leader, sharing second place with three other players.

Hatton's compatriot Aaron Rai also had a solid round, carding a three-under 69, placing him alongside Hatton in the four-way tie for second. The current leader is Carl Yuan from China, who maintained a one-shot advantage with a cumulative score of nine under par. Yuan followed his opening round of 68 with a commendable five-under 67 on Friday.

Joining Hatton and Rai in the tie for second are Corey Conners from Canada and CT Pan from Chinese Taipei. Hatton expressed his satisfaction with his performance, particularly highlighting his success on the putting green. Despite the challenges posed by the tricky greens in the afternoon, Hatton managed to find his start line, overcoming any deviations caused by the uneven surface and sinking crucial putts.

Justin Rose, two shots behind his compatriots Hatton and Rai, sits at six under par, along with Northern Ireland's Rory McIlroy, the defending champion. McIlroy shot a 67 on Friday, displaying his intent to secure a third victory in the tournament. With five birdies to his credit, McIlroy finds himself three shots behind the leader at the halfway mark of the competition.
