Brittany Lincicome Announces Retirement After 20 Years on LPGA Tour

Posted : 13 November 2024

Brittany Lincicome, a two-time major champion in her 20th LPGA season, announced on Tuesday that she will retire after this week's Annika tournament in St. Petersburg, Florida, near her hometown. The 39-year-old golfer, who won the 2009 Kraft Nabisco and the same tournament in 2015 (when it was called the ANA Inspiration), has not claimed an LPGA victory since her eighth win at the 2018 Bahamas Classic.

Lincicome shared her gratitude for being able to retire in her hometown, calling it a special moment. "It's like my whole world is coming together and falling into place," she said, expressing honor at making her final full-season event at the Annika tournament. Her husband will serve as her caddie for her farewell event, making it even more meaningful.

In 2018, Lincicome made history by playing in the PGA Barbasol Championship, becoming only the fifth woman to compete in a PGA men's event. She shot a one-under-par 71 in the second round, marking just the second time a woman had broken par in a PGA tournament. This achievement further cemented her place as a trailblazer in the sport.

Lincicome explained that her decision to retire was driven by a desire to spend more time with her daughter, especially after she started kindergarten. Reflecting on her time away from the course, Lincicome realized that volunteering at her daughter's school brought her more joy than the thought of playing golf. She expressed contentment with her career, cherishing her first LPGA title in 2006, her major victories, and her four Solheim Cup wins, all of which marked significant moments in her career.
