Britain and Ireland Dominate Continental Europe in Abu Dhabi Team Cup

Justin Rose's Britain and Ireland team delivered a commanding performance on Saturday, dominating the Continental Europe side to move within two points of clinching victory in the European Tour's Team Cup event in Abu Dhabi.

 

The British and Irish squad, featuring several Ryder Cup hopefuls, established a significant 11-4 lead ahead of Sunday's decisive singles matches, putting them on the brink of regaining the trophy. Despite strong showings from the French pairing of Matthieu Pavon and Romain Langasque, who secured two foursomes wins for Continental Europe, the rest of their team struggled to keep up.

 

Tyrrell Hatton, a LIV player aiming for his fourth consecutive Ryder Cup appearance later this year, added to his impressive week by securing a win and a tie alongside Matt Wallace, taking his personal tally to 2.5 points.

 

 Reflecting on the day's success, Hatton acknowledged the challenge of maintaining momentum but expressed satisfaction with their performance in crucial moments. Meanwhile, Tommy Fleetwood, known for sealing the winning point at the 2023 Ryder Cup in Rome, remained flawless in Abu Dhabi, accumulating three points from three matches.

 

Northern Ireland's Tom McKibbin also impressed, keeping his perfect record intact amid speculation of a potential move to the LIV circuit. With Fleetwood and Hatton set to lead the singles lineup against Pavon and Thorbjorn Olesen, Team GB and Ireland will look to quickly secure the remaining points needed to complete a dominant campaign and claim victory in the prestigious team event.
