Bethany Shriever, the Olympic champion, is set to lead an impressive 11-member British team at the BMX Racing World Championships, with her sights firmly set on defending her world title. Having clinched victory in Glasgow in 2023 to reclaim the coveted rainbow bands she first secured in 2021, Shriever aims to maintain her dominance in the upcoming championship, which is scheduled to take place in Rock Hill, South Carolina on May 17 and 18.
The 2024 World Championships serve as a crucial milestone before the highly anticipated Paris 2024 Olympics, where Shriever will strive to defend the gold she earned on her Olympic debut. Among the British contingent joining Shriever is Kye Whyte, who made history by securing Britain's first Olympic BMX racing medal with a silver in the men's event in Tokyo, moments before Shriever clinched gold.
The British squad boasts a blend of seasoned champions and promising talents, with Ross Cullen, Paddy Sharrock, and Quillan Isidore rounding out the elite men's team. Additionally, Emily Hutt aims to build on her under-23 women's silver medal from the previous year, while Callum Russell and Matt Gilston will compete in the under-23 men's event. Sienna Harvey, Betsy Bax, and Mark Fletcher complete the lineup, representing the junior women and men respectively, as they gear up to showcase their prowess on the international stage in Rock Hill.
