Tiger Woods was filled with pride as he witnessed his son Charlie score his first-ever hole-in-one at the PNC Championship on Sunday. Charlie, 15, made the ace on the 176-yard, par-three fourth hole at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club in Orlando. His perfect seven-iron shot lifted the duo into the lead in the 36-hole event.
Although Charlie didn’t initially see the ball land, the roar of the crowd confirmed that it had dropped six feet from the pin, sending it into the cup. Tiger celebrated the moment with a heartfelt hug and a playful shove, calling it an "unbelievable moment" for his son.
Despite their thrilling performance, the Woods duo was edged out by Bernhard Langer and his son Jason in a playoff. After tying the leaderboard with a 28-under score, Woods and his son posted a final round of 57, following their first-round 59.
The playoff saw Bernhard Langer make an eagle putt at the first hole to seal the victory, giving him his sixth PNC Championship title, four of which he won with his son Jason. Langer and Jason’s victory marked their second consecutive triumph in the event, which features 20 family teams.
Sunday's final round also featured a remarkable hole-in-one from Paddy Harrington, the son of three-time major champion Padraig Harrington. Paddy’s ace at the eighth hole was the first of his life, creating an emotional moment for both father and son.
"I've never been as excited," said Padraig, reflecting on his son’s achievement. The tournament, while lighthearted and family-focused, had plenty of exciting moments, offering a blend of competition and joy for the participants.
For Tiger Woods, the event was a chance to enjoy some friendly competition after a long hiatus due to injuries. The 49-year-old, who has undergone multiple surgeries, including a back procedure in September, has not competed in elite events since missing the cut at the 2023 British Open.
Although still recovering, Woods participated in both rounds without using a cart, which was permitted due to the event's rules. For him, the weekend was about family, bonding, and creating lasting memories, with his daughter Sam even caddying for him.
