Remco Evenepoel, the 23-year-old Belgian cyclist and two-time world champion, is set to make his debut in the Tour de France in 2024, as confirmed by his team Soudal-Quick Step. Evenepoel, a Grand Tour winner with his triumph in the Vuelta a España in 2022, faced a setback last year when he had to withdraw from leading the Giro d'Italia due to a positive Covid-19 test. Despite this, he showcased his prowess by winning the road race gold at the Cycling World Championships in 2022 and the individual time trial in Scotland.
The talented cyclist, who made history as the first Belgian to clinch world time trial gold in Stirling, expressed his pride in the achievements of 2023 but emphasized his complete focus on the upcoming year. Having faced challenges, including cracking on stage 13 of the Vuelta, Evenepoel is eager to race in France in the coming months and anticipates a successful debut in the Tour de France. He kicks off his 2024 campaign at the Figueira Champions Classic, a one-day race in Portugal on February 10.
Evenepoel reflected on the past year, stating, "Last year was a very special one, so I can be proud of how things went, but all that happened in 2023 is in the past now, and my entire focus is on this year. I will race a lot in France in the coming months and I'm hoping for some more good results and a nice debut in Le Tour." The announcement builds anticipation for Evenepoel's Tour de France debut and his continued contributions to the cycling world.
