The Bauchi government has announced plans to upgrade the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium (ATBS) from its current capacity of 16,000 to 30,000 seats.
Mohammed Salis, the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, made this statement in Bauchi.
He mentioned that the remodeling and upgrading of the sporting facility would be carried out through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) arrangement.
“This aligns with Governor Bala Mohammed’s vision to revamp sporting facilities, including the dilapidated Olympic-size swimming pool, games village, and multipurpose indoor sports hall,” he said.
“This partnership will not only provide a suitable venue for sports enthusiasts but also create opportunities for economic growth and development in the state,” he added.
Salis noted that the modern sporting facilities would enhance the performance of athletes, attract national and international competitions, and promote tourism.
The project, he stated, would offer a conducive environment for athletes to train and compete, increasing their chances of success at both national and international levels.
“Moreover, the modern facilities will attract investors, create jobs, and stimulate economic growth,” he concluded.
