Barry Hawkins triumphs over Milkins, advances to champion of champions semis

Barry Hawkins secured a spot in the Champion of Champions semi-finals with a commanding 6-2 victory over Robert Milkins. Following his earlier 4-0 triumph against Luca Brecel, Hawkins demonstrated exceptional form, overpowering the world champion before facing Milkins, who had earned his quarter-final berth with a 4-2 win against Mark Williams. Hawkins became the second player to reach the semi-finals, following Mark Allen's 6-2 victory over Ali Carter the previous evening.
 
Despite a messy performance, Hawkins reflected on a successful day, acknowledging the challenge Milkins posed during a late comeback after trailing 4-0. "Well happy to come through the group and to play well against Luca," Hawkins shared with ITV Sport. He admitted to a lapse in concentration but expressed satisfaction with the overall performance this season, emphasizing the rarity of such moments. Reflecting on his concentration levels, Hawkins noted the difficulty of finishing off opponents when they're on the ropes.
 
The match against Milkins started with Hawkins taking the first frame, making a comeback from 20-52 down with a remarkable display of safety play and table clearance. Hawkins continued his dominance by sealing the second frame with a break of 55, leaving Milkins struggling after missed opportunities. Despite Milkins' efforts, Hawkins secured the third and fourth frames, establishing a 4-0 lead. Milkins managed a comeback by winning the fifth frame, but Hawkins responded by claiming the sixth with strategic play.
 
Milkins showcased his resilience with a break of 81, the highest of the contest, in the seventh frame, keeping himself in the match. However, Hawkins sealed the victory in the eighth frame with a run of 83, ensuring his place in the semi-finals. Despite the less-than-perfect performance, Hawkins will return on Friday for his first Champion of Champions semi-final.
