Bangladesh Captain Shakib Al Hasan to miss world cup match with fractured finger
Posted : 07 November 2023
Bangladesh's captain, Shakib Al Hasan, will be sidelined for the team's final Cricket World Cup match due to a fractured finger sustained during their match against Sri Lanka. The injury occurred while batting in a match that drew controversy, but Bangladesh managed to secure a three-wicket victory.
Despite being eliminated from semi-final contention, Bangladesh aims to secure a top-eight finish to qualify for the 2025 Champions Trophy.
Shakib played a central role in the controversial dismissal of Sri Lanka's Angelo Mathews, which involved an appeal for the wicket based on timing out despite the batter's objection related to a helmet issue.
Shakib's innings continued, and he contributed significantly with a score of 82, but his injury was sustained during the game.
Bangladesh's physio, Bayjedul Islam Khan, provided an update on Shakib's condition, stating that an emergency X-ray confirmed a fracture on the left PIP joint of the index finger. Recovery is estimated to take three to four weeks, and Shakib will return to Bangladesh to begin his rehabilitation.
