Ayaka Furue of Japan solidified her position as the halfway leader at the Evian Championship by completing her second round on Saturday with five straight pars, maintaining a two-stroke lead over Australian Stephanie Kyriacou and Thai Patty Tavatanakit. Furue had a three-stroke lead when play was halted due to dangerous weather on Friday at the fourth major of the women's golf season.
Despite creating clear birdie opportunities on the 15th and 16th holes, Furue settled for a second consecutive round of 65, bringing her total to 12 under par at the halfway mark. Her consistency has been evident throughout the season, with eight top-10 finishes in 16 tournaments, and she has carried this form into the Evian Championship with 12 birdies, 24 pars, and no bogeys over the first 36 holes.
When play resumed on Saturday, Kyriacou and Tavatanakit trimmed Furue's lead with rounds of 66 and 68, respectively, taking advantage of the sunny conditions. Hye-Jin Choi also surged back into contention with a round of 68, following two bogeys on Friday with four birdies on Saturday, leaving her three shots behind Furue. The third round is set to tee off early on Saturday afternoon.
