Austin Eckroat Returns to Cognizant Classic to Defend Maiden PGA Tour Title

Austin Eckroat is preparing to defend his first PGA Tour title at the 2025 Cognizant Classic in the Palm Beaches, and the memories of his breakthrough victory have come rushing back. The 26-year-old reflected on the experience as he returned to the PGA National Champion Course, recalling the emotions of his triumph last year.

 

Walking onto the property, he was immediately reminded of the relief he felt after clinching the title, particularly when he saw the 18th green where he conducted his post-round interview.

 

Eckroat’s victory in 2024 saw him collect $1.62 million after recording 23 birdies to secure a three-stroke win. He later added another PGA Tour title at the World Wide Technology Championship in November, further solidifying his status as an emerging contender.

 

However, his current season has been inconsistent, with two Top 15 finishes balanced by four missed cuts. Sitting 59th in the FedEx rankings, he acknowledges the challenges but remains optimistic about his form heading into this week’s event.

 

Reflecting on his performances, Eckroat admitted that the season has been a mix of highs and lows, with moments of confidence followed by struggles. He believes his game is close to clicking into place, emphasizing that recent struggles were more about mistimed shots rather than fundamental issues.

 

Taking time to reset at home last week, he feels rejuvenated and ready to tackle the challenges of defending his title, hoping to build on the memories that made last year’s triumph so special.
