Tojemarine Handball Club and Safety Babes continued their leads on the Ardova Handball Premier League 2024 league tables as they won their matches on Day 1 of Phase 2 of the league in Lagos on Wednesday.
In the women's category, defending champion Safety Babes extended their over two-year winning streak as they defeated Rivers Queens 36-27 to maintain their lead in the league standings. Meanwhile, Delta Queens, whose goalkeeper Emuore Emamuzo delivered an MVP performance with vital saves, defeated Bendel Dynamos 34-18.

Despite an inspiring MVP performance by goalkeeper Omaluwa Susan and a tension-filled end-to-end game, Defender Babes were unable to secure the win as they lost 36-34 to an exciting Rima Queens team. In another match, Seasider Babes and COAS Babes played out a thrilling 27-27 draw.
Former champion Plateau Peacocks had to dig deep as they secured a narrow 29-27 victory over veteran team Imo Grasshoppers.
In the men's category, league leaders Tojemarine Handball Club defeated an improved Corrections Boys 35-27, despite struggling in the early stages of the match. Seasider Boys of Lagos caused an upset by defeating former champions Kano Pillars 35-27.
Defending champion Niger United comfortably earned a 35-27 victory over Sunshine Kings, while former champions Safety Shooters efficiently defeated Benue Buffaloes 33-18.
Rima Strikers earned a 32-23 victory over D.Defenders.
