Ardova Handball Premier League 2023 Phase 2 kicks off in Lagos

The stage is set for the commencement of the Ardova Handball Premier League 2023 phase 2, which will take place in Lagos and commences today.
The second phase of the Ardova Handball Premier League 2023 will bring together 22 teams (12 male teams and 10 female teams) along with officials who will arrive in Lagos today (Monday). The matches will kick off on Tuesday, November 14th, 2023, at the indoor sports hall of the National Institute of Sports (NIS) in the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos, and the outdoor handball court at the Rowe Park Sports Center in Yaba, Lagos.
Coaches of the teams and officials, including referees and members of the technical and organizing committee, will hold a technical meeting at the NIS Indoor Sports hall to refresh themselves on the league rules, while the matches will begin at exactly 7 am on Tuesday morning at the two centers.
With Niger United and Safety Babes leading the league in the men's and women's categories from phase 1 held in Benin City, Edo State, the teams will be ready to kick off in the two categories, offering enticing fixtures to excite fans.
In the women's category, third-place Rima Queens of Sokoto with 23 points will continue their performance from the first phase as they play against Bayelsa Queens, positioned 8th on the log with 13 points. Delta Queens, ranking 7th with 16 points, will face bottom-placed Benue Queens on match day 1.
Additionally, the home team Seasider Babes of Lagos, positioned 5th, will meet Bendel Dynamos at 6th place, while the highlight match will be the Abuja derby with defending champions Safety Babes, the current league leaders, taking on city rivals and second-placed Defender Babes in what promises to be an engaging match.
Former champions Plateau Peacocks, ranking 4th, will play against 9th place Imo Grasshoppers.
In the men's category, 9th-placed D.Defenders will take on 6th-placed Confluence Stars, while league leaders and former champions Niger United, holding 30 points, will face Correction Boys placed 10th on the table with 16 points.
Defending champions Kano Pillars, who concluded the first phase in 5th place with 25 points, aim to start the second phase anew, playing against 7th-placed Rima Strikers. The 4th-placed Lagos Seasider Boys with 27 points will continue their phase 1 form against Benue Buffaloes, positioned 8th.
Lastly, the bottom team Bendel Dynamos will play Police Machine, while Tojemarine Academy, second on the table, will compete against second-placed Safety Shooters in the final match of the men's category on match day 1.
This marks the sixth season of the league with a new title sponsor, Ardova PLC, which will provide an increased preparatory subsidy of 500,000 naira for each of the twenty-two teams (12 male and 10 female teams). Additionally, the winners will receive a prize money of 2.5 million naira.
