Amy Yang Secures First Major Win at Women's PGA Championship After 75 Starts

Posted : 24 June 2024

Amy Yang clinched her maiden major victory on Sunday at the Women's PGA Championship, finally breaking through after 75 major appearances. The South Korean golfer held her nerve with a level-par 72 in the final round, finishing at seven-under 281 at Sahalee Country Club in Sammamish, Washington.

Despite facing some late challenges, including a double bogey on the 17th hole, Yang's solid play throughout the tournament secured her the $1.56 million winner's check. Her closest competitors, including compatriot Ko Jin-young, Japan's Miyu Yamashita, and American Lilia Vu, finished three strokes behind at 284, sharing second place.

Yang, ranked 25th in the world, expressed her overwhelming emotions after the victory, highlighting her perseverance over 17 seasons on the LPGA Tour and numerous close calls in major championships. She reflected on the doubts she faced about winning a major before finally achieving her long-held goal.

The 34-year-old Yang, a two-time US Open runner-up, previously won her fifth LPGA title at the Tour Championship in November. Her victory at the Women's PGA Championship caps a remarkable career milestone, demonstrating her resilience and skill on the course.

Moving forward, Yang's triumph underscores her status among the elite in women's golf and sets a poignant milestone in her professional journey, marking a significant achievement after years of dedication and determination.\
