Alison Lee fires bogey-free 63 to chase early leader at BMW Ladies Championship

Posted : 20 October 2023
Alison Lee delivered an outstanding performance at the BMW Ladies Championship, tying her career-low round on the LPGA Tour with a bogey-free 9-under 63. This impressive round placed her just one stroke behind the early leader, Ashleigh Buhai.

Lee's round commenced on the par-4 10th hole, where she swiftly made a birdie on her opening hole. She continued with three consecutive pars before embarking on a birdie spree, making three in a row on the 14th, 15th, and 16th holes, concluding the front nine with another birdie on the 18th, turning in 31 for the front side.

Lee maintained her momentum, recording three consecutive pars on holes 1, 2, and 3. However, she revved up her game on the back nine, securing three successive birdies on the 4th, 5th, and 6th holes, and finishing with one last birdie on the par-5 8th hole, ultimately posting an impressive 9-under for the round.

Notably, this marks the first time Lee has carded a 63 since the 2022 CPKC Women's Open's final round, and it's only her third such score on the LPGA Tour. This round is also her lowest career first-round score, surpassing her previous best of 65, demonstrating her exceptional performance and strong start to the BMW Ladies Championship.

Lee's remarkable play is fueled by her confidence in her ball striking and swing, which she feels has been lacking over the past year. She particularly emphasized her putting performance, a critical factor in her success during the round. Her solid showing on day one has positioned her well in the tournament, and she hopes to maintain her exceptional putting performance in the following rounds.

Lee's background and strong connection to Korea, where her family originates, provide an extra layer of motivation as she aims to secure her spot in the season-ending CME Group Tour Championship, currently sitting at 58th in the Race to the CME Globe point standings.
