Alexa Pano wins ISPS HANDA World Invitational 2023 with eight-under-par score

Alexa Pano of the United States secured a memorable victory at the ISPS HANDA World Invitational Presented by AVIV Clinics 2023 in a dramatic playoff. On her birthday, Pano clinched the title with a total of eight-under-par after rounds of 76-70-69-66. She faced a playoff against Germany's Esther Henseleit and England's Gabriella Cowley.
In the playoff, Pano made a birdie on the first hole, but Cowley matched her, leading to a return to the tee. Pano maintained her composure despite hitting a tee shot into the trees, securing a par on the second playoff hole while Cowley missed her birdie putt. On the third playoff hole, Pano's excellent play allowed her to two-putt for a birdie, earning her maiden LPGA Tour and Ladies European Tour (LET) title.
Pano's final round of 66 (-6) at Galgorm Castle Golf Club propelled her into contention, with three bogeys and nine birdies, including two crucial ones in her last two holes. Cowley's final-round 70 (-2) and an eagle putt on the last put her in the playoff. Despite a missed birdie putt, Henseleit's strong performance over the weekend earned her a spot in the playoff.
Jonas Foerts emerged as a key player for Pano's win, and her victory was particularly meaningful as her father caddied for her. She expressed her joy and surreal feelings, highlighting the special significance of winning on her birthday.
Ryann O'Toole of the United States secured fourth place, finishing seven-under-par with a final round of 70 (-2). Olivia Cowan of Germany finished fifth with a final-round score of 68 (-4), achieving consecutive top-10 finishes.
Azahara Muñoz of Spain and Diksha Dagar of India tied for sixth place, with Muñoz shooting her best round of the week (66, -6) to climb the leaderboard. Peiyun Chien of Chinese Taipei secured eighth place on four-under-par, while Kim Metraux of Switzerland finished ninth.
In the 2023 Race to Costa del Sol standings, Celine Boutier of France maintained her lead, followed by Ana Peláez Trivino of Spain and Aditi Ashok of India. The victory propelled Cowley from 30th to 11th place in the standings.
