Aleji, Ghanaian, Amezade emerge champions of 10th Awa Ibraheem Junior Open Golf Championships

Austine Aleji of Otukpo Golf Club has emerged as the new champion of the 10th edition of the 2023 Awa Ibraheem Junior Open Golf Championship, completing a round of 54 holes with a score of 231 gross, which was 24 over the course par.
Additionally, Ghanaian golf sensation, Juliene Amezade, surprised other Nigerian players by winning the U-15 Girls category, making her the first non-Nigerian to win the championship in its ten-year history.
The 10th Awa Ibraheem Junior Open Golf Championship concluded with a beautiful birthday ceremony for the sole sponsor at Ikeja Golf Club, Lagos.
Other winners included Destiny Oyero, who claimed victory in the U-12 Boys category for an impressive fifth time. In the U-7 Girls category, Eugina Mandes emerged as the winner, while Wisdom Onjefu secured the top spot in the U-11 Boys category.
The closing ceremony was attended by the President of the Nigeria Golf Federation, Otunba Segun Runsewe, who described the championships as the future of Nigerian golf.
"This championship is second to none, perhaps in the world, about the fourth of its kind. When we talk about the future of golf in Nigeria, this is it, and I say it without hesitation. I am pleased with the level of participation and determination I have witnessed among the young golfers, and if we're talking about golf, this is where it all begins," he said.
Mr. Olusola Akinyemi, the Captain of Ikeja Golf Club, the tournament's host, commended the sponsor of the championships, Dr. Awa Ibraheem, for his unwavering support over the past ten years.
The sole sponsor, Ibraheem, announced his commitment to providing maximum support to the cadet golfers and also revealed various cash prizes for the winners, including N300,000 for the first-place finish, N200,000 for the second-place finish, and N150,000 for the third-place finish.
