The head coach of the Nigeria Women’s Senior Volleyball Team, Samuel Ajayi, stated on Thursday in Abuja that he was confident the team would secure a spot for the African Games in Ghana.
Ajayi emphasized that the team is determined to make the federation and the nation proud in the qualifiers.
He mentioned that the team is determined to participate in the African Games in March.
“The team is well-prepared for the qualifiers, and the players are determined to win all their games so that they can represent the federation in Ghana.
“The team aims to qualify and win a medal, and to achieve this, the players need to be focused and play all their matches with instructions,” he said.
Ajayi has named 12 players for the upcoming African Games qualifiers in Lagos.
The players are: Sharon Achi, Aliyah Usman, Ijeoma Ukpabi (Captain), Maryam Ibrahim, Mirabel Onyegwu, Happy Wushilang,
Other players are Blessing Unekwe, Deborah Chukwu, Ifunanya Udeagbala, Kelechi Ndukauba, Albertina Francis, and Jummai Bitrus.
Ijeoma Ukpabi has been selected as the team captain, while Jummai Bitrus is the newly selected assistant captain.
The 2024 African Games Qualifiers are scheduled for Jan. 4 to Jan. 8 at the National Stadium in Lagos.
The 13th edition of the African Games will be held in Ghana from March 8 to March 23.
