As the 2024 NPA Ibadan International Polo Tournament entered Day Two, Ibadan Black the Edit polo team bounced back to reckoning in the Ade Alakija Memorial Cup competition.
The +1 handicap team bounced back to beat the Ibadan Transco team 5 – 2.5, returning to winning ways after Monday’s heavy loss.
They had lost 4-10 in their opening match on Monday to the Ibadan Durante Meristem team.
In Tuesday’s second match, the Ibadan LCG Daisy team suffered a 3 – 3.5 loss against the Ibadan D and B Imperial polo team despite leading 3 – 1.5 well into the match’s third chukka.
They had won their opening match on Monday 7 – 1.5 against Lagos Ikoyi, looking good enough to be classified as one of the title favorites in the competition.
The Ade Alakija Memorial Cup, organized by the Nigerian Polo Tournament, continues in Ibadan.
The Cup competition, which is for teams with a total handicap of -2 to +2 each, features seven teams in Stream 1 and Stream 2.
Stream A of the competition has Lagos Ikoyi, Ibadan LCG Daisy, and Ibadan D and B Imperial.
Stream B, on the other hand, has Ibadan Durante Meristem, Port Harcourt Wilten Aviation, Ibadan Transco, and Ibadan Black the Edit Polo.
Meanwhile, three teams are participating in the General Rotimi Cup competition, which is for teams with handicaps +3 to +7, namely Ibadan Magna, Lagos Caverton São Polo, and Lagos GDF Global.
The Ibadan Cup competition, for teams with handicaps +8 to +12, is expected to round off the tournament on Sunday, with Ibadan LGC 1 and the Visiting Team facing each other.
