Santa Cruz’s Adam Bartlett earned a tie for seventh place at the World Surf League’s Live Like Zander Junior Pro In Loving Memory of Zander Venezia. The event took place at the famous Soup Bowl in Bathsheba, Barbados, on Sunday. This marked Bartlett’s best finish in a Junior Tour event, achieving his highest placement in three attempts.

At just 17 years old, Bartlett showcased his growing skills on the Junior Tour. His previous best result was 17th place at the SLO CAL Open in Pismo Beach in January. During this event, he advanced to the semifinal stage, finishing fourth in his heat. The competition was held in 1- to 4-foot surf conditions, where the young surfer displayed his talent.

Bartlett’s performance in the semifinal was solid, catching five waves and earning scores of 3.97 and 5.67, giving him a two-wave total of 9.64. This performance was enough to tie for seventh place in the overall standings. It was clear that his efforts in Barbados were a significant improvement from his earlier results on the tour.

In the semifinal, Will Deane of Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina, emerged as the top surfer with a score of 14.00, while Hayden Rodgers of San Clemente followed with a solid 12.40. Despite a strong performance, Lucas Cassity from Baja California Sur, Mexico, scored 12.37, which earned him third place in his heat. Cassity finished in a tie for fifth overall, showing the depth of competition at the event.

The other semifinal saw Kai Kushner from Manhattan Beach claiming first place with an impressive 15.00, while Wheeler Hasburgh of Invermere, Canada, advanced with a score of 12.54. Eeli Timperi from Finland, and Logan Radd of Satellite Beach, Florida, were both eliminated after their heats, marking the end of their respective campaigns in the event.

In the final, Will Deane secured the victory with a score of 15.60. Hasburgh followed closely in second with 14.17, while Kushner and Rodgers finished third and fourth, respectively, with scores of 14.07 and 13.53. This final highlighted the level of competition and showcased some of the top emerging talents in the surfing world.

For Bartlett, his tie for seventh at the Live Like Zander Junior Pro represents a major milestone in his surfing career. The event was not only a test of skill but also a tribute to the legacy of Zander Venezia, whose memory continues to inspire young surfers worldwide. With this performance, Bartlett is sure to gain confidence and momentum as he looks forward to future competitions.
