Aaron Rodgers faces uncertain future after Achilles tendon injury in New York Jets debut
Posted : 12 September 2023
In his debut game with the New York Jets after leaving Green Bay, Aaron Rodgers suffered a devastating Achilles tendon injury, casting doubt on his future in the NFL. The quarterback, who spent 18 years with the Packers, made a highly-anticipated move to the Jets this summer, but his first game with the team may sadly be his last.
Rodgers sustained the severe ankle injury during the opening game of the season, leaving him sidelined for an extended period. Initial assessments suggest that he tore his Achilles tendon, putting his entire season in jeopardy and raising the possibility of retirement.
This summer's move to New York came as a surprise after Rodgers had signed a lucrative three-year, $150 million contract with the Packers in March 2022. Despite winning consecutive MVP awards, last season's disappointments with Green Bay, including a 9-8 record and missing the playoffs, may have influenced his decision to follow in the footsteps of his mentor Brett Favre and join the Jets.
Jets coach Sala expressed his empathy for Rodgers, acknowledging the quarterback's dedication and effort. He stated, "The injury doesn't just affect me personally, but our entire locker room. It's heartbreaking for Aaron because I know how much he invested in it all. I'll keep him in my prayers. My thoughts are with him during this tough time."
