As the 8th National Youth Games wind down, Team Delta remains at the top of the medal table, having amassed an astonishing 64 medals.
However, Team Kaduna ended the day with a brilliant performance, claiming two gold and one silver medal. Their achievements were in Beach Volleyball Boys (Silver), Beach Volleyball Girls (Gold), and Cricket Boys (Gold).
The host team, Delta, who currently leads the medal table, shows no signs of slowing down. They are also in contention in combat sports and recorded a resounding victory in Golf, concluding with a medal ceremony presentation of: 2 gold (Olomurhire James-Laura) and 1 bronze (Chende Miracle O), just behind FCT, with 2 gold and 2 bronze medals.
Borno claimed 1 gold, 2 silver, and 1 bronze; Kano earned 1 gold, and Adamawa secured 1 gold. Additionally, Akwa Ibom received 1 gold; Bayelsa earned 2 silver and 2 bronze, while Lagos collected 2 silver and 1 bronze; Ogun achieved 1 silver and 1 bronze, and Nasarawa gained 1 silver.
Also on the podium for golf was Niger with 1 silver, while Oyo, Imo, Plateau, Benue, Cross River, Edo, Kaduna, Kwara, and Ekiti failed to make an impression in the golf event.
In cycling, Divine Ogbe of Team Edo maintained an impressive run. Ogbe clinched another gold medal for Team Edo, increasing the state’s medal haul after finishing first in the female point road race. This gold medal in the point race is the third that Divine Ogbe has won for Edo State in the Asaba 2024 Games.
With her achievements in the 2024 Youth Games, Divine Ogbe has proven to be a force to be reckoned with and not just a rising star in Nigerian cycling.
Similarly, Miracle Udoh also won a gold medal for Edo in the 40kg Judo Boys, adding value to Team Edo's performances.
In chess, Eguavoen Henry Oghogho won a silver medal for Edo in the Classical on Board 3, while 9-year-old Zita Agusionu and Ayeni Fareedah won silver and bronze medals on Board 3a and Board 2, respectively, in the female categories.
