The Enugu Taekwondo Association says it has penciled down about 70 athletes for the First Quarter 2024 Grading, scheduled for May 11 at the Indoor Sports Hall, Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu.
Ebere Amaraizu, Chairman of the association, made this known on Thursday, adding that the grading would be done by the State Taekwondo School.
Amaraizu said that the grading would provide a platform for the promotion of athletes from one belt to the other.
“This will be based on the athletes' conduct and understanding of taekwondo tenets, drills, poomsae, sparring techniques, among others.
“Grand Master Dennis Ani and the team of taekwondo masters in the school will be able to take on athletes made up of children, youths, and adults through a series of classes, drills, and sparring techniques.
“The event will be supported by Cope and Live Mental Health Awareness Foundation and will feature over 70 athletes struggling it out in their weight categories with the fighting spirit of becoming champions.
“The association is grateful to Grand Master Dennis Ani for his leadership qualities and passion for taekwondo development.
“I will also applaud the efforts of teachers in Enugu State Taekwondo School such as masters Musa, Frank, and Chibuzor,” he said.
