Helen Mamman, a 45-year-old, emerged as the winner of the 8th Lagos Women's 10-kilometer Run in the Veterans' Category with a time of 50 minutes and 11.38 seconds (50:11.38).
The veteran category was for women above the age of 40.
Mamman, a former national 800-meter and 1500-meter runner, won the top prize of N300,000 in the category for her achievement.
Another former athlete, 45-year-old Blessing Paul, came in second with a time of 60 minutes and 39.39 seconds (60:39.39), winning the N200,000 cash prize.
After the event, Mamman expressed her joy in an exclusive interview, stating that this victory added another record to her career. She said, "I was a former runner and I have represented Nigeria at major events. I am happy to win this, which is another record for me."
Paul, in her reaction, attributed her success to maintaining a good nutritional regimen, which provided her with the necessary fitness for the race.
Joy Ebiye emerged as the winner of the regular marathon with a time of 39 minutes and 13.78 seconds (39:13.78). She received the top prize of N1.5 million.
Veteran runner, Deborah Pam, came in second with a time of 39 minutes and 22.73 seconds (39:22.73) and won a cash prize of N500,000, while Patience Dalyop claimed N300,000 for securing the third place in 40 minutes and 2.08 seconds (40:02.08).
In his closing remarks, the Director-General of the Lagos State Sports Commission, Oluwatoyin Gafaar, commended the runners for their efforts. He assured, "Lagos will always support this type of sports program, and it can only get better."
