He also mentioned that the grand prize for the winner would be N1 million, while the second-place golfer would receive N750,000, and the third-place finisher would get N500,000.

The highlight of the grand finale will be a dinner at the golf range, which will be an interactive event involving all the members of the golf section, he said.

Tunde Oni, Vice Captain of the Ikoyi Club 1938 golf section, reiterated the golf section’s commitment to celebrating Nigeria's independence with a golf tournament.

During the press briefing signaling the commencement of the 2024 Nigeria Cup, a tournament organized to commemorate Nigeria's independence, held at the Ikoyi Club 1938 golf section, Oni expressed excitement about staging the competition.

He explained that the annual golf tournament, organized by the Ikoyi Golf Community Nigeria Association (IGCNA), would begin on Monday, Sept. 21, with a children's tournament.

On Tuesday, Sept. 22, there will be the "Golf for Good" event, followed by the caddies' competition on Wednesday, Sept. 23.

Activities on Thursday, Sept. 24, will focus on the ladies' tournament, while an Independence Day Kitty will take place on Friday, Sept. 25, followed by the professional tournament.

On Saturday, Sept. 26, we will have the Sponsors' tournament, and the event will conclude on Sunday, Sept. 27, with the Nigeria Cup tournament and a gala night, he explained.

Oni emphasized the importance of the tournament, noting that it would help reach out to various Nigerian communities, especially the less privileged.

We are organizing the tournament to connect with the caddies, who are an integral part of the golf community, he said.

We need the caddies' support, and we aim to reciprocate by supporting them, as we have a mutually beneficial relationship.

This tournament will provide the caddies with necessary exposure, and we are also glad to welcome the professionals, who are essential to the growth and development of the game, he added.

Oni further noted that the Nigeria Cup is a special way to mark Independence Day, and it couldn’t be done in a better way than how we are doing it.

The Chairman of Ikoyi Club 1938, Tafa Zibiri Aliu, praised the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) and the golf section for staying true to the club's mission.

He emphasized that the 2024 Nigeria Cup represents the values and principles of the club.
