A total of 24 teams will participate in the 2024 Comptroller General of Customs Volleyball Premier League.
The first phase of the 2024 Comptroller General of Customs Volleyball Premier League is scheduled from August 24th to September 10th at the Moshood Abiola Stadium in Abuja.
The Technical Director of the Nigeria Volleyball Federation, Chief Martin Melandi, revealed that 12 men's and 12 women's teams will compete for 14 days in the first edition of the CGC Volleyball League.
Melandi, who is a member of the League Management Committee (LMC), said that no teams were relegated from the 2023 top-tier league, while two teams were promoted from the National Division 1 League.
The international referee stated, “This year's edition of the league is named the Comptroller General of Customs Volleyball Premier League due to a sponsorship agreement between the Nigeria Volleyball Premier League and the Nigeria Customs Service.
“The current Comptroller General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi (MFR), is a sports enthusiast, especially in volleyball, and has attended the Premier League in Abuja as well as the Super Cup in Ilorin four years ago.”
“24 teams have shown interest in the Premier League this season.
“We regret the postponement of the league, which was due to the league's growth after seven years.
“No team was relegated from the 2023 Premier League, while two teams were promoted from the Division 1 League, as the Nigeria Customs Service (men and women) has been reinstated following the swift intervention of the President of the Nigeria Olympic Committee, Engineer Habu Gumel.”
