Ogun State Deputy Governor, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele, representing Prince Dapo Abiodun, CON, on Wednesday unveiled the mascot, logo, and theme song for the 2024 National Sports Festival, dubbed The Gateway Games, Ogun 2024.
The communication materials for the 22nd National Sports Festival, tagged The Gateway Games, were also launched ahead of the event, which is expected to take place in May.
These materials include the Games’ logo, theme song, and mascot. All three were unveiled at a colourful ceremony held at the June 12 Cultural Centre in Abeokuta. The Deputy Governor, Noimot Salako-Oyedele, stood in for the Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun.
The logo features Ogun State’s official colours—lemon green and yellow. The unveiling of the logo was immediately followed by the presentation of the festival’s theme song.
The theme song—rich in rhythm and spirit—is titled “E’kaabo”, a Yoruba word meaning “Welcome”, as Ogun State prepares to receive thousands of athletes, officials, tourists, and VIPs when the 22nd National Sports Festival comes alive on May 16. The theme song was composed by Dr. Bayo Adepetun.
The jam-packed hall roared with excitement when the festival’s mascot was finally unveiled. Brought to life by a brilliant team from the Ogun State Ministry of Culture, the mascot reflects the energy, cultural heritage, and aspirations of the people of Ogun State.
Gateway Games’ mascot: Omo Ogun
Named Omo Ogun, the animated mascot strolled onto the stage, saluted the audience, and then stepped down to greet the dignitaries.
