Chief of Naval Staff (CNS) Spikers Volleyball Club on Friday secured a 3-0 victory against Spiking Stars Volleyball (SSV) of Botswana.

The match was a Pool B opener of the 2025 African Women’s Volleyball Club Championship in Abuja.

The CNS Spikers secured a resounding 3-0 win (25-22, 25-21, 25-8).

In the first set, CNS Spikers took an early lead, winning 25-22 with a three-point difference.

They maintained the momentum in the second set despite SSV’s efforts to get ahead. CNS Spikers ultimately won the set 25-21.

The CNS Spikers dominated the third set, with an early lead of 6-1, and maintained the advantage, winning the set 25-8.

Speaking after the match, Kafayat Adeshola, head coach of CNS Spikers, expressed satisfaction with the team’s performance in their first game.

“This is a great start to the competition, which marks our team’s third appearance in a competition like this,” she said.

She recalled previous performances, where they finished 11th and 7th in their first and second appearances.

“Our team’s target is to finish on the podium, with a specific goal of securing second place in the current competition,” she said.

On her part, Cindy Gaotingwe, the captain of SSV, acknowledged that it was their first appearance in a competition of such magnitude.

She described the match as “okay” and commended her team’s composure and performance.

In spite of the outcome of the match, she assured that the team would start winning matches as the tournament progresses.

“Our team will do their best to win subsequent matches, setting high expectations for their performance in the remainder of the championship,” she said.

Pool B consists of CNS Spikers, Zamalek Sporting Club (ZMK) of Egypt, Kenya Prisons Volleyball Club (PRI) of Kenya, and SSV of Botswana.

Sixteen teams are participating in the championship, which began on April 1 and runs until April 14.
