Nigeria's duo of Victor Farinloye and Alabi Olabiyi Olufemi have been eliminated from the Para Table Tennis event at the ongoing Paralympics in France.
It was a disappointing end for the pair as Croatia’s Borna Zohil defeated Nigeria's Victor Farinloye in straight sets, 11-7, 11-7, 11-7, in the men’s singles class 8, thus exiting the competition in the round of 32.
The setbacks continued as China’s Liao Hao also upset Alabi Olabiyi Olufemi in the Round of 16 of the men’s singles class 10. Liao achieved a straightforward 3-0 victory over Alabi with set scores of 11-6, 11-6, and 11-7, advancing to the quarter-finals while Alabi was eliminated from the competition.
Similarly, in the women’s singles class 10, round of 16, Chinese Taipei’s Tian Shiau-wen defeated Faith Obazuaye in three straight sets, 11-4, 11-8, and 11-3.
The performance of Nigeria’s table tennis team at the 2024 Paris Paralympics has been disappointing, as none of the representatives managed to win a single set in both the doubles and singles events.
