Following the final medal presentation in the swimming event at the ongoing Youth Games, the Alfred-Olajide sisters have expressed their commitment to improved performance in future events.
15-year-old Atinuke Alfred-Olajide won gold in both the 50m and 100m breaststroke, while her 13-year-old sister, Boluwatife Alfred-Olajide, followed in her footsteps by securing gold in the same events.
An excited Atinuke Alfred-Olajide expressed her immense happiness after topping both of her main events. The young swimmer stated that she would continue to develop and enhance her performance.
“I am very happy to win gold here. I’m extremely grateful and believe I can further improve my game,” Atinuke said.
She also mentioned, “Bayelsa State should expect great things from me with hard work and training. I look forward to making my state and nation proud.”
Similarly, Boluwatife Alfred-Olajide noted that winning at this stage will significantly contribute to her development.
“I felt really happy because I knew I could achieve it, and it’s fantastic to win gold,” Boluwatife said.
She added, “I understand that expectations are now high for the family, but I will continue to improve and work hard because I see myself competing in many international events and possibly the Olympics.”
In total, Team Bayelsa won four gold, two silver, and one bronze in the swimming events at the Asaba 2024 Youth Games.
