Golf’s rising profile: On Monday, Friday Godwin won Team Nasarawa's first medal at the ongoing 8th National Youth Games in Asaba, Delta State.
After overcoming stiff competition from his Delta State counterpart in the first game, his FCT opponent in the second game, Borno adversary in the quarter-finals, and Kano rival in the semi-finals, the promising golfer settled for a silver medal. He lost the final match to his Adamawa State counterpart, Obed Yusuf, by a score of 2-3 in the match-ball event, which was decided at the Ibori Golf and Country Club in Asaba.
He has a chance to win another medal for Team Nasarawa on Tuesday morning in the Stroke Play (36 holes), where he will face opponents from Benue, Niger, and Kaduna States.
For his achievement, Friday Godwin has been selected by the organizers of the Youth Games, through the Nigeria Golf Federation, to represent Nigeria at the forthcoming Golf Junior CAT Championship, which will be hosted by either Cameroon or Senegal later in the year.
The selectors also picked Nasarawa State’s Sidi Ibrahim, who finished 4th in the Eclectic Golf Event.

Sensational boxer Yusuf Abdullahi agonizingly bowed out of the Youth Games after failing to recover from injuries sustained in his fists during his last technical knockout win over his Enugu State counterpart in the Boys' 42kg category.
He was unable to face his quarter-final rival due to his injuries, shattering his dream of winning a medal for Team Nasarawa at the Games. He wept uncontrollably and profusely.
