The Nigeria Black Stallions lost 10-17 to their Ivorian opponents today in the 9th place final, making it three losses and two wins in the tournament.
Earlier today, in the semifinal for 9th place, coached by Steve Lewis, the Stallions defeated Team Algeria 27-7 to advance in the classification stage.
Penultimate in the group phase matches, the Stallions suffered losses against South Africa and Zimbabwe before notching up a win over hosts Mauritius, 24-5, ending the tournament 11th overall with 6 points over two legs.
Meanwhile, the Uganda Rugby Union emerged as back-to-back winners at the 2024 Rugby Africa 7s in Mauritius.
The Ugandans defeated South Africa 20-17 in today’s final, marking a double victory celebration following their win in the first leg final on June 30.
The African champions will return to the World Rugby Sevens Challenger series for the 2024/2025 season, where they will be joined by Madagascar.
