Imo Grasshoppers had to resort to their wealth of experience to edge out Rima Queens on day 10 of the Ardova Handball Premier League 2024 Phase 1, ongoing in Benin City, Edo State.
The Owerri-based team found Rima Queens from Sokoto a hard nut to crack, but somehow dug deep to earn a 40-38 victory over the compact ladies from the Caliphate, despite the match being an end-to-end affair.
In other matches in the women's category, Defender Babes, who had previously dedicated their victories to their teammate Dorathy Nyag, who is not with the team because she got married, comfortably defeated Delta Queens 34-22, while COAS Babes earned their biggest victory of the league following their 33-22 win over Bendel Dynamos, who have been a big disappointment to their fans.
In the men's category, defending champions Niger United easily defeated Adamawa Warriors 36-21, while Rima Strikers of Sokoto also earned an easy 35-21 victory over Benue Buffaloes.
De Defenders and Correction Boys played to a 26-26 draw, while Safety Shooters defeated Seasider Boys of Lagos 31-22.
Tojemarine Academy extended their lead on the league table as they earned a 27-22 victory over three-time champions Kano Pillars.
