Posted : 20 June 2023
As the 23 edition of the Cote D’Ivoire Open Golf Championship tees off at the President Golf Club Yamoussoukro with golfers from across the globe swinging for the top prizes, Nigerian golf fans have something to cheer as the country is parading a whooping 20 professional golfers (13 men and 7 women) in the championship that will last from June 20-23.
Interestingly, the professionals include some of the best players in Nigeria’s golfing community who have made their marks and still can create upsets giving their present commendable form.
The players include PGA of Nigeria legend, Andrew Oche Odoh, who was one-time Nigeria number one for many years and has won over 40 titles; current Nigeria number one, Kamalu Bako; the eTranzact champion, Francis Epe; Willy Gift; Sunday Olapade and Chukwudi Okoro, all who are in their top form at the moment.
Others are top players as Christopher Francis; Haruna Kabiru Mohammed; Friday Akpodiete; Wesley Inenye; PGAN Tournament Director, Johnbull Dangofa; Bulus Izang and Nsikak Dickson.
On the Ladies Professional Golf Association of Nigeria (LPGAN) roll call are the Ladies Captain, Sharon Wesley, who participated in the just concluded Asantehene Open in Ghana; Tina Micah; Celina James Bola Mustapha and Valentina Ogieva – all who have won at various championships.
There is great hope that the Nigerian contingent will be back with good results.
